Suzuki Marine has a long reputation for pioneering new technology to make its outboard motors more powerful, more dependable and more efficient. Over the years, Suzuki has introduced many important features to the outboard motor industry, including digital electronic fuel injection, gravity-fed oil injection, pulse-tuned intake tracks, boron composite cylinder walls, dual-plug cylinder heads, computer-controlled MicroLink ignition, and more.

Suzuki’s 2001 90 and 115 EFI Four-Stroke outboards boast a long list of important technical advancements – some of which have never been seen before on any outboard in any horsepower class. Suzuki’s willingness to break new ground, combined with decades of experience building four-stroke motorcycles and automobiles in use around the world, has resulted in the most advanced fuel-injected four-stroke outboards available.

Here are some technical highlights of Suzuki’s 2001 90/115 Four-Stroke outboard motors:
Technical Feature Benefit
Offset Drive Shaft
(A Suzuki First)
Reduces overall size of motor, moves center of gravity forward on transom for better balance.

Allows for use of smaller cam sprocket, cylinder head and cover for a more compact motor, which means more room on the transom and in the splash well. Easier to fish over and around, won’t interfere with flats "poling platforms." Size conforms to AYBC standards.
DOHC w/Oil-Bathed Timing Chain Under Block
(A Suzuki Exclusive)
Location of timing chain under block lowers engine center of gravity and allows for more compact engine design. Automatic hydraulic tensioners provide maintenance-free operation.
New High-Capacity Motor Mounts
(An Industry First)
New higher-capacity motor mounts are used to reduce engine vibration. Upper engine mounts are positioned further aft, closer to the engine’s axis of inertia. This further cuts down on vibration and noise for an extremely quiet, smooth-running motor, and eliminates the need for counter-balance shafts found on other motors.
Tuned 4-2-1 Exhaust System
(An Industry First)
Suzuki is the first company to bring this race-bred technology to outboards. Two separate exhaust tracts (cylinders 1/4 and cylinders 2/3) are joined to one below the waterline. This reduces drag in the exhaust system for more power output.
Water Cooled Intake Manifold, Crankcase & Fuel System
(An Industry First)
Density of cool incoming air is kept at a higher state, ensuring instant, crisp acceleration, smooth performance and optimum efficiency across the power band.
200 Hz Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve
(An Industry First)
Allows for low 620 rpm idle with stable,
quiet idling performance. Frequency of 200 Hz eliminates need for IAC Valve silencer and further decreases motor noise.
Digital Electronic Fuel Injection w/Plate Injectors Suzuki has taken its dependable digital electronic fuel injection and added plate injectors, similar to those found on racing motorcycle engines. These injectors vaporize fuel more effectively for a more complete burn, improved performance and decreased emissions.
Oil Change Reminder
(An Industry First)
Lights and an audible "beep" signal the user when it’s time for service, for trouble-free operation and improved dependability.
Neutral Rev Limiter Limits engine rpms to 3000 in neutral, to prevent accidental engine damage.
New Hydrodynamic Lower Unit/Driveshaft Assembly
(A Suzuki First)
A heavy-duty driveshaft and highest gear reduction ratio in the class (2.59:1) allow for use of a higher pitch prop for improved hole shot and top-end performance.

These are just some of the many technological advancements found on Suzuki’s 2001 90 and 115 horsepower four-stroke outboards. For more complete information on these breakthrough new motors, refer to the full press release and specification sheet included in this media information kit.
