August 01, 2002 - SUZUKI has introduced its smallest four-strokes outboards yet - portable 4 and 6 horsepower models with a compact, lightweight and efficient design that's ideal for inflatables, dinghies, cartoppers, canoes and other small vessels.

SUZUKI's new DF4 and DF6 models offer several important advantages to the small boat owner. With a displacement of 138cc (the largest in this class of portables), the DF4 and DF6 have surprising low- and mid-range torque for strong acceleration. Yet their lightweight (55 lbs./15" shaft, 57 lbs./20") and large, convenient carrying handle make them a breeze to transport.

SUZUKI's latest four-strokes feature a modern, single-cylinder overhead valve design. In addition, SUZUKI is the first to offer a digital capacitor discharge ignition system (CDI) on a portable outboard. This advanced design - combining the ignition coil and control processor into a single, corrosion-resistant unit that precisely controls the ignition timing - delivers smooth idling and features a built-in rev limiter. SUZUKI is also the only manufacturer to provide an oil-level site gauge for a quick check before use.

Balance and operator comfort is critical in small boats, so the DF4 and DF6 feature a tiller handle that's mounted on the steering bracket. This allows the operator to sit well forward, improving weight distribution. A large, well-placed shift lever puts full forward-neutral-reverse shifting within easy reach. And the design provides for 180-degree steering, important for docking maneuvers or navigating crowded yacht harbors.

An optional 12V 6A alternator - the largest in the class - is designed to provide charging power from a low 2,200 rpm, providing power for lights or fishing electronics.
